Power with Character: What We Must Teach Our Daughters

July 15, 2025

In the powerful work of empowering girls, we’ve done well to teach them to rise.
To speak.
To lead.
To take up space.

But somewhere along the way, we must pause and ask:
Have we also taught them how to carry power with character?

Because true empowerment is not about being loud or rebellious for the sake of it.
It’s not about becoming unteachable, harsh, or dismissive.
It’s not about using “independence” as a reason to be rude, ungovernable, or dishonourable.

We must be careful not to raise a generation that confuses confidence with arrogance, or freedom with pride.
We need to raise rooted girls, not just loud ones.
Anchored women, not just visible ones.
Powerful, yes—but powerful with grace.

Let’s teach her that she can:
• Speak up without shouting down.
• Lead without losing humility.
• Stand firm without dishonouring others.
• Assert herself without disrespecting those around her.

Let’s remind her that submission to God, respect for elders, and a teachable spirit are not signs of weakness. They are signs of wisdom.

Because real power is quiet confidence.
Real power is knowing who you are—and still being willing to learn.
Real power is not in domination, but in discipline.

So yes—empower her. Expose her to opportunity. Teach her to lead.

But don’t forget to teach her to listen.
To honour.
To walk in obedience to values that preserve her integrity when the applause fades.

We don’t just need loud women.
We need wise ones.
Women who are not just rising—but rising well.
