I still bow my head and pray. Even in restaurants.

October 3, 2025

There’s a habit I never let go of — one that feels simple, yet deeply grounding.

I bow my head and whisper a prayer before I eat.

Whether it’s a plate of sadza at home or pasta at a 5-star restaurant. Whether I’m alone or with a group. Whether it’s fast food or a boardroom lunch meeting.

I still pause. I still say, “Thank You.”

Because I know what it’s like to eat with sorrow.
I know what it’s like to have food but no appetite because your soul is grieving.
I know what it’s like to feel full but deeply empty.
I also know what it’s like to be fed by grace — when you didn’t even know how that meal came together.

So I bow my head. Not for show. Not for tradition. But for reverence.

There are prayers I’ve whispered into plates that no one saw.

There are tears I’ve hidden in the space between “Amen” and my first bite.

And sometimes, it’s not just the food I’m praying over — it’s the conversation that’s about to happen, the person sitting across from me, the decision I need to make afterwards.

We live in a world that’s rushing. That shouts louder and louder. But prayer? Prayer whispers. Prayer stills.

So yes — I’ll still bow my head.

Even in restaurants.
